TL;DR? Then please do NOT comment.
Sorry, I'm having some trouble with people not knowing how to read before they become angry... =_=;

A lot of people on dA seem to want pageviews, favs, watchers, or really all seems to do something with wanting to be "popular"

...I don't think people should be drawing just for popularity... yes, maybe if they make a living off making art and have an actual job with it and their actual life depended on it (like food, water, shelter)...but the plain fact is that on dA most people draw as a hobby. So shouldn't hobby drawing be for fun and not to get "adoring fans"?

I mean yeah, it's nice to know people like your art, and yes it does make you feel good...I'm no different...but some people actually seem to be driven to draw only for popularity, whether they are popular already or not...

Actually I've seen some artist (no names >:0 ) say they'll stop drawing cause they "don't have enough fans" it kind of makes me wonder if they only create art to be loved/adored? 0~0; What happened to making art for things like enjoyment or stress relief? Isn't that how true art should be for? ;^;

I think a true artist looks past popularity and continues for enjoyment... I personally don't count those artists that only draw for popularity as actual artists, no matter how "good" their art is...

...but this is just my opinion though... You can disagree or agree, everyone has their own opinions~ so let's all respect everyone's opinions; me and you together~ ^u^ fighting/flamming >:0 ...but friendly debate = yay

anyone can use this stamp~ no need to fav or whatever, it's free for use~ <3

I love to draw even if it's just with ms paint and a mouse if i've gotten popular for my art i really wouldn't know what to do.. heh, don't even know if i'd be able to handle being popular

hi yes
some mentally ill people (like myself), require attention to do activities like art and writing. without the support we don't feel the motivation to actually do anything
attention is fine to desire

please don't shame people for that
it's pretty albeist :U

I usually get happy when I have a lot of people liking my art, which makes me motivated and have more fun with drawing. I come up with more ideas for drawings that gets me and everyone else loving it. Don't worry, I don't go crazy over having a lot of watchers, I don't mind at all if I have 10 watchers or 5 even.

(I went overboard with this. :heh'': )

I sometime change my "goal".

I draw for funk or for improve,or for contributing.

But it is mostly for fun.

I support this. I draw because I like telling my stories I make up through art. And I don't do it for fame! I only do it because I love doing it <3

I only want more watchers for the sole purpose of getting more commissions to make a living. if people like my art, they'd want to commission me, but I honestly could care less if I had a lot of watches as long as they get what they've watched me for.

I disagree. True artists make art for the sake of art, or expressing themselves.
AquosBoost Featured By Owner May 14, 2015  Student Digital Artist
get rid of "for FUN not fame" and this stamp is pretty accurate

I think this topic will be eternally relevant.
Well, now my opinion.
I make art in the first place for my own pleasure. And I do not particularly important to me be popular or not. Since understand that my art very few people need. But I do not care, my art - this is my "child", and I love my child not for popularity, but because he is. So people that have only one I do not understand the popularity and I do not like them.

Not only do I draw just for the hell of it, but often I do it to express feelings I can't normally express when speaking to someone without writing it down. Plus just doodling helps kill time ... And works as an excuse to mess with the brushes in Photoshop. XD

But this is very true, and it's sad to see Deviants do this for fame, I say it's a waste on talent if they are a rather good artist. (First person that comes to mind is Akai. I think she's a fitting example, I feel as if she just drew for popularity and for reasons to make her character look like a total sex object, whether it was intentional, or by "accident").
the-absolutus Featured By Owner Apr 21, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
Sorry, but who is this Akai?
DragonStar2197 Featured By Owner Apr 21, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
A mary sue arist, who often drew porn of her Amy Rose recolor with Sonic and Shadow. Don't believe me? Go look her up. :I She's pretty bad..
the-absolutus Featured By Owner Apr 21, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
I believe you, I just don't know this artist. Can you give me a link to it?

It's true though. I mean. I really don't care who is famous or not. What matter is you don't over price your drawings. I mean really I rather draw what I want then pay 40 bucks or 1000 points. Two, if u are very well known for your drawings, don't disrespect people. Another thing is that, not that is a bad thing but kinda make me as a drawer feel bad is that they always have other website that they post drawings at. I mean over all if your not a snob or a type of show off and didn't want to be famous or didn't expect it is fine. Or if you really do want to be famous that's fine as well. But don't show it off to the other people who aren't a well experience drawers.

Ah, but as you stated later in the description, "fun" doesn't pay the bills, and a lot of people don't only draw for fun, they draw to express various emotions. It doesn't always come down to sheer entertainment; art is a form of expression. Having a fanbase is essential to gaining commissioners. Drawing for popularity isn't necessarily a bad thing. If I want to make a career of art, because I love it, eventually sacrifices for popularity will have to be made. You can also make quite a difference in people's lives once you gain some ground on the follower front. I want to help and inspire as many people as possible, and prove once and for all, that artists don't have to be starving, mentally unsound, or poor to be successful. However, there is no gain without some kind of give, and if that "give" is working around social media to boost your follower count, then so be it.
DragonStar2197 Featured By Owner Apr 9, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Expressing emotions through artwork helps in calming one's mind. I myself am making a comic, and using the emotions I've had pent up for the past ten years as fuel for it, since the comic delves into the deeper part of my mind that I normally keep hidden.
