TL;DR? Then please do NOT comment.
Sorry, I'm having some trouble with people not knowing how to read before they become angry... =_=;

A lot of people on dA seem to want pageviews, favs, watchers, or really all seems to do something with wanting to be "popular"

...I don't think people should be drawing just for popularity... yes, maybe if they make a living off making art and have an actual job with it and their actual life depended on it (like food, water, shelter)...but the plain fact is that on dA most people draw as a hobby. So shouldn't hobby drawing be for fun and not to get "adoring fans"?

I mean yeah, it's nice to know people like your art, and yes it does make you feel good...I'm no different...but some people actually seem to be driven to draw only for popularity, whether they are popular already or not...

Actually I've seen some artist (no names >:0 ) say they'll stop drawing cause they "don't have enough fans" it kind of makes me wonder if they only create art to be loved/adored? 0~0; What happened to making art for things like enjoyment or stress relief? Isn't that how true art should be for? ;^;

I think a true artist looks past popularity and continues for enjoyment... I personally don't count those artists that only draw for popularity as actual artists, no matter how "good" their art is...

...but this is just my opinion though... You can disagree or agree, everyone has their own opinions~ so let's all respect everyone's opinions; me and you together~ ^u^ fighting/flamming >:0 ...but friendly debate = yay

anyone can use this stamp~ no need to fav or whatever, it's free for use~ <3

Artists thrive on popularity to make a living, fuck this stamp and everything it stands for. Yes, art can be a hobby as well but there are no true or fake artists (: sorry to all the special snowflakes that think otherwise!
BloodyMythNemesis Featured By Owner Sep 22, 2015
so true    i see alot of people trying to get famous by anykind of   art this site which doesn't really surpise me
TheBirb Featured By Owner Sep 20, 2015  Student Artist
stfu you pretentious shits theirs no such thing as a"Real artist' or "Fake artist" if you like doing art congrats ur an artist
if u like doing art and wanna be famous for it, youre still an artist
im so pissed by the amount of ppl who think theyre better and ''real artists'' just because they dont wanna be famous
doing art for fame or what ever still qualifies you as an artist
like dont let not being famous stop you from arting but if you wanna draw because you want your 5 minutes of fame w/e fucking do it if you have fun drawing youre still an artist

True. I mean it's one thing to depend on art for a means of living, of course you gotta expand and market your art. But just for the sake of popularity? Nope. What a sad existence you have, if that's the case.

More often times than not, those people who draw for popularity become so lost in the fame that they're no longer who they used to be. They don't care about anything else as long as they get more and more fans. Some even push their own friends away just for that which is just sad, but hey, c'est la vie. Some people are bound to collapse under the weight of popularity.

Just remember that popularity always comes with a price. It's up to you what you're giving up. It could be time, your old life... even friends, it all depends.

TL;DR I don't really care if you get popular for your art or not, as long as you don't become a total self-absorbed she-dog after getting "popular". Because I don't really care how "popular" you think you are, as long as you know how to respect people.

I agree. I just draw for fun not for fame.
shadowninjer Featured By Owner Aug 19, 2015  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I totally agree, even i DONT have much popularity here, but i still draw as my hobby
WaveOfFire Featured By Owner Aug 10, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
I agree! Once when I started showing my drawings to people in school I was getting a reputation that I was good at art. People enjoyed looking at it and I enjoyed making it for fun and because I had made so many friends through it. Then my friend told me the only reason why she draws is to be better than me. At first I was flattered then when I thought about it I was offended that the only reason that she was drawing was to be "better" than me.

so yay my story :I

I love to draw even if it's just with ms paint and a mouse if i've gotten popular for my art i really wouldn't know what to do.. heh, don't even know if i'd be able to handle being popular
Rupert-Kaseki Featured By Owner Jul 21, 2015
hi yes
some mentally ill people (like myself), require attention to do activities like art and writing. without the support we don't feel the motivation to actually do anything
attention is fine to desire

please don't shame people for that
it's pretty albeist :U
SouthernBelle20 Featured By Owner Aug 9, 2015  New Deviant Hobbyist Traditional Artist
thank you. I feel worthless if my art is not liked, its why I stressed to be the best in art class. I almost broke into tears when a project of creating a watercolor portrait was cancelled when I was almost done with it because the art class students were slacking off on it
Rupert-Kaseki Featured By Owner Aug 10, 2015
that.. isn't what I meant, small child.
your interpretation of my comment is quite.. laughable and foolish..
SouthernBelle20 Featured By Owner Aug 10, 2015  New Deviant Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Okay now that is just plain rude. Your comment was vague can be interpreted ANY way, I am NOT small and you are the foolish one. Good day sir!

I usually get happy when I have a lot of people liking my art, which makes me motivated and have more fun with drawing. I come up with more ideas for drawings that gets me and everyone else loving it. Don't worry, I don't go crazy over having a lot of watchers, I don't mind at all if I have 10 watchers or 5 even.

(I went overboard with this. :heh'': )
zigaudrey Featured By Owner Jul 18, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
I sometime change my "goal".

I draw for funk or for improve,or for contributing.

But it is mostly for fun.

I support this. I draw because I like telling my stories I make up through art. And I don't do it for fame! I only do it because I love doing it <3

The journey before the destination is more important.
doqslippers Featured By Owner Jun 10, 2015
I only want more watchers for the sole purpose of getting more commissions to make a living. if people like my art, they'd want to commission me, but I honestly could care less if I had a lot of watches as long as they get what they've watched me for.

I disagree. True artists make art for the sake of art, or expressing themselves.

get rid of "for FUN not fame" and this stamp is pretty accurate

I think this topic will be eternally relevant.
Well, now my opinion.
I make art in the first place for my own pleasure. And I do not particularly important to me be popular or not. Since understand that my art very few people need. But I do not care, my art - this is my "child", and I love my child not for popularity, but because he is. So people that have only one I do not understand the popularity and I do not like them.
despairdance Featured By Owner Edited Apr 19, 2015

DragonStar2197 Featured By Owner Apr 9, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Not only do I draw just for the hell of it, but often I do it to express feelings I can't normally express when speaking to someone without writing it down. Plus just doodling helps kill time ... And works as an excuse to mess with the brushes in Photoshop. XD

But this is very true, and it's sad to see Deviants do this for fame, I say it's a waste on talent if they are a rather good artist. (First person that comes to mind is Akai. I think she's a fitting example, I feel as if she just drew for popularity and for reasons to make her character look like a total sex object, whether it was intentional, or by "accident").
