TL;DR? Then please do NOT comment.
Sorry, I'm having some trouble with people not knowing how to read before they become angry... =_=;
</EDIT>

A lot of people on dA seem to want pageviews, favs, watchers, or whatever...it really all seems to do something with wanting to be "popular"

...I don't think people should be drawing just for popularity... yes, maybe if they make a living off making art and have an actual job with it and their actual life depended on it (like food, water, shelter)...but the plain fact is that on dA most people draw as a hobby. So shouldn't hobby drawing be for fun and not to get "adoring fans"?

I mean yeah, it's nice to know people like your art, and yes it does make you feel good...I'm no different...but some people actually seem to be driven to draw only for popularity, whether they are popular already or not...

Actually I've seen some artist (no names >:0 ) say they'll stop drawing cause they "don't have enough fans" ...so it kind of makes me wonder if they only create art to be loved/adored? 0~0; What happened to making art for things like enjoyment or stress relief? Isn't that how true art should be for? ;^;

I think a true artist looks past popularity and continues for enjoyment... I personally don't count those artists that only draw for popularity as actual artists, no matter how "good" their art is...

...but this is just my opinion though... You can disagree or agree, everyone has their own opinions~ so let's all respect everyone's opinions; me and you together~ ^u^
...no fighting/flamming >:0 ...but friendly debate = yay

anyone can use this stamp~ no need to fav or whatever, it's free for use~ <3

If true artists draw for fun and not fame, then what's the point in improving?

Me too, I just feel if you draw for fun, you don't really have the need to improve, which is what artists want to do most of the time

Oh good! That a relief for me. My family has pressured me to turn my art skills into a career, but my gosh, it feels too overwhelming. I want to work at my own pace, not turn it into a chore, and not have my ideas criticized constantly. Besides, my works are mainly fanfiction and fanart; even my OC fan-characters cannot stand alone to be "published." Merely sharing it with family, friends, and DA peers is appreciation enough.

I draw mostly for myself, but also for people's reactions. I make a lot of shock art and it is always fun to read the comments xD

Art can be a great way to bond with others. The above mentioned is one good reason why.

I actually agree with this stamp but for myself not for anyone else. I honestly didn't draw in the beginning to get popular. I still don't. It's just cool to show it to people sometimes but, that shouldn't be why I draw. If I think of art as work then it just isn't as enjoyable and my art won't grow to it's full potential.

 I don't think it's good to stop drawing just because people don't like it. Art takes a lot of practice and hard work. Getting popular though is cool too but, that shouldn't be the only thing what it should be about. At least that's how it is to me but, I know that isn't that way for everyone.

 Actually some artists like Slugbox for example, he doesn't even consider himself as an artist. He said he was more of a business man. He just wants to make a living off of it from what i gather. Nothing wrong with being popular but, that isn't for me.

I really don't care about being popular. I used to but, I realized that shouldn't be the most important thing. Unless you are trying to make money off of art or something. So it depends for me. I can't say who can or can't be a true artist though it's up to the artist if they even consider themselves as an artist. Just my two cents.

So TRUE! I'm not well known, I write journals that nobody reads, offer commissions nobody takes, but I still draw- because I LOVE to do it.

Exactly, I draw for myself and for enjoyment, to of course improve on my art skills. It's nice that my friends like my drawing and random people fave its all good ^u^

But then there are those people who want faves and comments, and it's just really annoying... I can understand if that person is new or knows they need feed back inorder to improve but there are those people who already popular or get enough feedback that when they get a FAVE they all go bat shit crazy and I'm just all WTF...

Thank you for making this stamp :D

I think the only time it's bad for popularity is if it's purely just for it.. Or if you are a liar.. <<Mostly that more. :)

But popularity is often very important if you want people to know you, and with what you like doing.
I love making levels for a video game (Me a ROM hacker), and I might be doing it for popularity but at the same time, I love the game, and wanting to show other people, helps me. And popularity interest does make my skills improve you know?
So I'm posting for the purpose of "getting attention" but with something that I like.. DA is kind of the point for that too. lol

I also want people to know what I spread in terms of world issues but only because I'm serious about them, and wish more people were awake, in fact, those are less about me only..

<3 Art shouldn't be about being famous! It should be a way to express yourself and the feelings inside you. It's good to get promotion though.

I do it for both! Most kids dreams are to be famous, right? Be it artist, rockstar, writer, designer or whatever! We want to be famous, but be famous through what we like doing. I like drawing, so I'll accomplish my dream while doing what I love!

Well I think everyone who creates art is an artist. Their reasons do not matter to me. :)

I also think that most people who draw for popularity started drawing because it was fun to them, too.
And what is so wrong about people who draw to be famous? If this is what they want, they have the right to do everything to reach their wish, as long as they do not hurt other people. Everyone has their own personal aims in their life.

I thought uploading art on this site means that you want to be famous.
If you draw for fun, don't submit here anything. You don't need fame, right?

 I don't think it's about getting popular. I think it's about sharing your art with other artists and/or art admirers(I being both). And yes, it's nice getting comments on your art, but like everyone else is saying, and what I think is the point othis stamp, is that you shouldn't draw just 4 other people. Art is such a loose term though. It means something else to every person. To me, it's a way to express your thoughts, to express yourseland bring your deepest thoughts and feelings to life or to tell a story. This is just my opinion, trying not to argue.

And forgive me but a lot of my keys are broken.

The point of this website is to help people improve their art. People upload their art to seek other people who will tell the artist what is wrong with their piece, and what they can do to fix it.

That is not how a true artist reacts. That is how the people who think their art is good when all they're done is drawn some sloppy hair and clothes onto a base, react.

Unfortunetly, this is the only reactions I got (but sometimes people say 'it has to be like that!' and don't even want to listen...). That's why I don't give advices anymore. As you can see, it's just pointless. Once I said some person that changing one thing (bang color in this case) in an existing character and calling her OC, isn't original and creative. The war she made... all her friends were protecting her and now they are my enemies. Just because I said this one thing I almost left the dA.

I 100000000% agree! I'm sick of seeing artists cry over how unpopular they are. They make journals saying, "Oh, no one likes me, so I'm not going to draw anymore. Leaving deviantART, bye." That's horrible! You shouldn't be drawing for others!

Which also applies to famous people, who only draw for others. If I said "Viria," how many Harry Potter/Percy Jackson fans would immediately recognize the name? Now, I'm not denying that Viria is a talented girl, but sometimes, I feel as though she only draws/posts for fame. I don't know this for a fact, so don't snap at me. And I'm only using Viria as an example. But you get the idea. The people who post only what they know will please a huge audience. People whose galleries are 100% fan art.

Forgive me for butting in, but if a person's gallery is 100% fan art that doesn't automatically mean they're 100% posting only for fame.

Yes it's nice to know people like your art, but you should only draw if you enjoy it ^-^

I've seen things like "I'm gonna stop drawing but heres just one more thing before I stop" and im just like "are you kidding me?" it pissed me off.

Good stamp ^^ and I agree with you completely.
