Sorry, I'm having some trouble with people not knowing how to read before they become angry... =_=;
</EDIT>

A lot of people on dA seem to want pageviews, favs, watchers, or whatever...it really all seems to do something with wanting to be "popular"

...I don't think people should be drawing just for popularity... yes, maybe if they make a living off making art and have an actual job with it and their actual life depended on it (like food, water, shelter)...but the plain fact is that on dA most people draw as a hobby. So shouldn't hobby drawing be for fun and not to get "adoring fans"?

I mean yeah, it's nice to know people like your art, and yes it does make you feel good...I'm no different...but some people actually seem to be driven to draw only for popularity, whether they are popular already or not...

Actually I've seen some artist (no names >:0 ) say they'll stop drawing cause they "don't have enough fans" ...so it kind of makes me wonder if they only create art to be loved/adored? 0~0; What happened to making art for things like enjoyment or stress relief? Isn't that how true art should be for? ;^;

I think a true artist looks past popularity and continues for enjoyment... I personally don't count those artists that only draw for popularity as actual artists, no matter how "good" their art is...

...but this is just my opinion though... You can disagree or agree, everyone has their own opinions~ so let's all respect everyone's opinions; me and you together~ ^u^
...no fighting/flamming >:0 ...but friendly debate = yay

----------------

anyone can use this stamp~ no need to fav or whatever, it's free for use~ <3

It's true though. I mean. I really don't care who is famous or not. What matter is you don't over price your drawings. I mean really I rather draw what I want then pay 40 bucks or 1000 points. Two, if u are very well known for your drawings, don't disrespect people. Another thing is that, not that is a bad thing but kinda make me as a drawer feel bad is that they always have other website that they post drawings at. I mean over all if your not a snob or a type of show off and didn't want to be famous or didn't expect it is fine. Or if you really do want to be famous that's fine as well. But don't show it off to the other people who aren't a well experience drawers.

Ah, but as you stated later in the description, "fun" doesn't pay the bills, and a lot of people don't only draw for fun, they draw to express various emotions. It doesn't always come down to sheer entertainment; art is a form of expression. Having a fanbase is essential to gaining commissioners. Drawing for popularity isn't necessarily a bad thing. If I want to make a career of art, because I love it, eventually sacrifices for popularity will have to be made. You can also make quite a difference in people's lives once you gain some ground on the follower front. I want to help and inspire as many people as possible, and prove once and for all, that artists don't have to be starving, mentally unsound, or poor to be successful. However, there is no gain without some kind of give, and if that "give" is working around social media to boost your follower count, then so be it.

well in my opinion an artist is an occupation so a true artist is someone who makes art to gain things

all the rest of the people that make things for fun are hobbyists

{ Actually, I think the opposite- Anyone can be a true artist.

Especially those who get commissions to help pay their bills. If they aren't popular, no one would be commissioning them, would they?

But it's always best to draw for fun rather than stress over doing what fans want ( and it's unpayed ). }

Oh good! That a relief for me. My family has pressured me to turn my art skills into a career, but my gosh, it feels too overwhelming. I want to work at my own pace, not turn it into a chore, and not have my ideas criticized constantly. Besides, my works are mainly fanfiction and fanart; even my OC fan-characters cannot stand alone to be "published." Merely sharing it with family, friends, and DA peers is appreciation enough.

I actually agree with this stamp but for myself not for anyone else. I honestly didn't draw in the beginning to get popular. I still don't. It's just cool to show it to people sometimes but, that shouldn't be why I draw. If I think of art as work then it just isn't as enjoyable and my art won't grow to it's full potential.

 I don't think it's good to stop drawing just because people don't like it. Art takes a lot of practice and hard work. Getting popular though is cool too but, that shouldn't be the only thing what it should be about. At least that's how it is to me but, I know that isn't that way for everyone.

 Actually some artists like Slugbox for example, he doesn't even consider himself as an artist. He said he was more of a business man. He just wants to make a living off of it from what i gather. Nothing wrong with being popular but, that isn't for me.

I really don't care about being popular. I used to but, I realized that shouldn't be the most important thing. Unless you are trying to make money off of art or something. So it depends for me. I can't say who can or can't be a true artist though it's up to the artist if they even consider themselves as an artist. Just my two cents.

Exactly, I draw for myself and for enjoyment, to of course improve on my art skills. It's nice that my friends like my drawing and random people fave its all good ^u^

But then there are those people who want faves and comments, and it's just really annoying... I can understand if that person is new or knows they need feed back inorder to improve but there are those people who already popular or get enough feedback that when they get a FAVE they all go bat shit crazy and I'm just all WTF...

Thank you for making this stamp :D

I think the only time it's bad for popularity is if it's purely just for it.. Or if you are a liar.. <<Mostly that more. :)

But popularity is often very important if you want people to know you, and with what you like doing.
I love making levels for a video game (Me a ROM hacker), and I might be doing it for popularity but at the same time, I love the game, and wanting to show other people, helps me. And popularity interest does make my skills improve you know?
So I'm posting for the purpose of "getting attention" but with something that I like.. DA is kind of the point for that too. lol

I also want people to know what I spread in terms of world issues but only because I'm serious about them, and wish more people were awake, in fact, those are less about me only..

Well I think everyone who creates art is an artist. Their reasons do not matter to me. :)

I also think that most people who draw for popularity started drawing because it was fun to them, too.
And what is so wrong about people who draw to be famous? If this is what they want, they have the right to do everything to reach their wish, as long as they do not hurt other people. Everyone has their own personal aims in their life.

If you draw for fun, don't submit here anything. You don't need fame, right?

 I don't think it's about getting popular. I think it's about sharing your art with other artists and/or art admirers(I being both). And yes, it's nice getting comments on your art, but like everyone else is saying, and what I think is the point othis stamp, is that you shouldn't draw just 4 other people. Art is such a loose term though. It means something else to every person. To me, it's a way to express your thoughts, to express yourseland bring your deepest thoughts and feelings to life or to tell a story. This is just my opinion, trying not to argue.

And forgive me but a lot of my keys are broken.

The point of this website is to help people improve their art. People upload their art to seek other people who will tell the artist what is wrong with their piece, and what they can do to fix it.
